Anthem was commissioned by conductor Betsy Burleigh and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh in celebration of their 100th anniversary season, and was premiered at the Library of Congress in February of 2009. The work sets an English version of Psalm 130 as a soft, unfolding prayer of sorts, slowly becoming more and more hypnotic as the work moves toward a distant and quiet conclusion.
