Careless Carols is a celebratory choral work commissioned by Richard Bjella and Phillip Swan, directors of choral music at Lawrence University for the Experience American Choral Masterpieces Weekend held in February of 2008 and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. The work is a setting of verses by the late 19th/early 20th century Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, celebrating spontaneity and the joy of living in the moment through song. Careless Carols was premiered in 2008 by the combined Lawrence University choirs and the Experience American Choral Masterpieces Chorus.
