Certus Sum Enim (2014) was commissioned by the Wisconsin-based chorus, the Central Chamber Chorale, under the direction of Greg Reierson. The piece is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Joseph Ousley, a founding member, singer, and past president of the ensemble. The music is a setting of a text from Romans chapter 8, verses 38-39, a favorite passage of the work’s honoree, Dr. Ousley. The understated, yet comforting, nature of the text is expressed through the quiet and almost ethereal musical passages, which slowly unfold to a reverent conclusion.
