Gonzo on Manzo is a slow jazz-funk tune composed for the Boston-based jazz ensemble Either/Orchestra under the direction of tenor saxophonist and composer Russ Gershon. The somewhat silly title is a bit of a pun on my last name: Rindfleisch (a German word meaning “beef”). In Italian my last name would be “Manzo” (also meaning “beef”). The tune begins sparsely in the rhythm section and grows eventually to a full band improvisation, before returning to the slow, sparse conclusion where it began.
